We are delighted to present and support this project of Lwandisurf. A model of education that focuses on surf culture as a tool for integration in the daily lives of the youth of Punta do Ouro, Mozambique. After learning about their story, we were passionate about the work they do, and we didn’t hesitate for a moment to collaborate with them.
Lwandi Surf is a project founded by Rómulo de Lima de Oliveira, Gabriel F. Carrião de Freitas, and Gerson Severo da Trindade. “Lwandi” is a word inspired by the local language, Xichangana, which means “sea.” As it should be for you, the sea is a place of refuge and reflection that brings therapeutic healing to humans. The Lwandi Surf project, located in Ponta do Ouro – Mozambique, aims to work through activities that promote physical and mental health, along with educational actions, with local children and youth in the city who are in a situation of social vulnerability.
Lwandi Surf aims to overcome the barriers faced by adolescents in the community. The program addresses the physical and mental health needs of the participants, as well as providing educational support through swimming lessons, yoga, surf classes, conversation circles, English lessons, school monitoring, and professional training. Through sport and education, we hope to develop these young people, showing them new paths and ways to surf the wave of life.
