Smash: Legacy of Andalusian Rock

With the iconic song “El Garrotín” by the cult Seville band Smash, from Salao, we introduce this very important and signature part of the brand—music. We present to you the story of this timeless legend.

“Flamenco gets along well with rock because all music shares the same notes: do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si. But you have to know how to play them, and that talent is either born with you or it isn’t.”
This phrase, although said by Manuel Molina, a member of Smash at the end of his career, can be extended to the idiosyncrasy of the band. Their way of understanding music, a mix of daring, recklessness, and the madness of youth, was the hallmark of the band throughout their life, to the point that when they lost control over their music, they disbanded. In their early years, their sound was closer to rock, blues, psychedelia, and progressive rock, but they evolved in their final stage to blend what they had learned with flamenco touches, which is what made them more widely known.

One of their most famous songs is “El Garrotín,” and from Salao, we have chosen it as the hallmark to set the musical atmosphere of the brand— a song that evokes the rebellion of 70s Andalusian roots open to the world. A breath of fresh air and creativity. A tribute to freedom and love.
