LWANDI SURF

Salao is fortunate to begin its journey with Lwandi Surf. A project aimed at integrating the youth community of Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique, through surf culture, with the goal of providing them with better opportunities in life, work, and education. Awareness and education are fundamental values in Salao’s philosophy, and Lwandi Surf is a beautiful example of how surfing can be a tool for social integration and education for humanity. Fifteen percent (15%) of the sales from this model will be donated to Lwandi Surf. Together, we can make the world a better place.

Lwandi Surf is a project founded by Rómulo de Lima de Oliveira, Gabriel F. Carrião de Freitas, and Gerson Severo da Trindade. “Lwandi” is a word inspired by the local language, Xichangana, meaning “sea.” The sea serves as a place of refuge and reflection, offering therapeutic benefits to humanity. The Lwandi Surf project, located in Ponta do Ouro, Mozambique, aims to work with local children and youth in situations of social vulnerability through activities that promote physical and mental health, as well as educational initiatives.

In many cities in Mozambique, we see young people, from an early age, entering the world of alcohol and drugs, exposed to traumatic and risky situations such as HIV/AIDS, leading them to drop out of school and education in general. In Ponta do Ouro, the reality is not much different.

Lwandi Surf seeks to overcome the barriers faced by adolescents in the community. The program addresses the physical and mental health needs of participants while providing educational support through swimming lessons, yoga, surfing, conversation circles, English classes, school monitoring, and vocational training. Through sports and education, we aim to help these young people grow and discover new paths and ways to “surf” the wave of life.
